Mabuygiw Garkaziw Kupay is the Mabuyag (Mabuiag Island) registered Traditional Owner Men’s group. We are a Community-Controlled Organization based in Mabuyag, and we have been operating since the 4th of May 2017.
The objective of the projects and programs we are planning and committing to is based on the aspirations of our people, land, and Sea. We deliver our services with cultural integrity and sensitivity, on behalf of our people, for our people, and by our people. We educate, practice, and empower Mabuyag people through Goemulgaw cultural values to support social and economic well-being.

Our Service Delivery Structure
The Mabuygiw Garkaziw Kupay Torres Strait Islander Corporation is managed and operated by the Traditional Owners of Mabuyag (Mabuiag) Island. The organisation is based in the community and delivers its services cost-effectively and efficiently on behalf of partners and stakeholders.
MGK Board of Directors
The MGK Board of Directors provides strategic leadership and governance, ensuring the organisation operates effectively and in alignment with community values and legal requirements. They are responsible for setting organisational direction, overseeing financial management, approving policies, and ensuring accountability to stakeholders. The Board plays a key role in guiding and supporting the implementation of Mabuyag Community Plans, ensuring these align with broader strategic goals and community aspirations.
Elders Advisory
The Elders Advisory group offers cultural guidance and wisdom to ensure that all activities respect and uphold traditional knowledge, customs, and protocols. They advise on culturally appropriate decision-making and community engagement, helping to maintain strong connections between MGK’s projects and Indigenous heritage. Their input is crucial in shaping and validating the implementation of Mabuyag Community Plans to reflect community priorities.
Manager
The Manager oversees day-to-day operations, coordinating staff and resources to deliver MGK’s programs efficiently. They lead strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and reporting, ensuring projects meet objectives while adhering to budgets and timelines. The Manager is responsible for driving the effective implementation of Mabuyag Community Plans by aligning project activities with community goals and securing necessary partnerships and resources.
Project Team
The Project Team implements on-ground activities including research, monitoring, community workshops, and environmental management. Working under the Manager’s guidance, they deliver practical outcomes that support the goals outlined in the Mabuyag Community Plans. The team engages local participants and ensures that all activities uphold cultural and environmental standards essential to MGK’s mission.
Our Projects:
Mabuygiw Garkaziw Kupay (TSI) Corporation will administer its services under the trading name, the Mabuyag Land & Sea Management Agency (MLSMA). Our services are managed and delivered in accordance with the aspirations of the Mabuygilgal, working closely with the Goemulgaw Torres Strait Islander Corporation Registered Native Title Body Corporate to implement on-ground work through our established Memorandum of Understanding.
